The 2012 London Summer Olympic Games are in full swing as of Friday, and we’ve already seen some incredible performances. As some of you may have found out in discussing the Games with friends, those who can only associate terms like “Snatch” and “Clean and Jerk” with inappropriate jokes might not get as excited about the weight lifting events as we CrossFitters and Oly Lifting aficionados; but in any case, some pretty cool things have happened already.
Tipping the scales at just over 123lbs, Om Yun Choi of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea became the fifth man in history to lift a total equaling three times his own body-weight. Reaching a total of 293kg (645#), Om hit both a 168kg (371#) Clean and Jerk and a 125kg (276#) Snatch. Some serious numbers for an athlete so small!
