a few thoughts…
First, my apologies for the post coming through late tonight. I needed the bubble bath first. Earlier today, I competed today in the inaugural OPTathlon in San Diego. The event put together by James Fitzerald (OPT) and hosted by CrossFit Invictus. The competition itself was part of a larger, 3 day event, that covered a wide spectrum of topics all related to training, fitness, fitness competitions, health, longevity and improved quality of life. It has been one of the best weekends of my life. I was blown away by the ideas and knowledge that were discussed, especially the medical and scientific concepts related to stress tolerance, toxicity, organ health and athlete development…more on that another time.
The competition today was an awesome growing experience for me. It consisted of 6 different events which in my opinion, made up a great test of fitness. I was able to rub shoulders and go head to head with several top athletes from the CrossFit community, and several CrossFit Games participants (from this past year and years prior). Through the day, I was able to set a Personal Record on my Clean and Jerk, jump far (farther than I thought I could), row fast, do your workout for today (double unders, wall balls and burpees), run 3k on a track and even throw a shot put (overhead and backward) for max distance.
Now that the day is over, I just feel to quickly express my gratitude to fitness. That may sound strange, but I’m serious. This event was a blast for me, participating in some things I was familiar with and a few I definitely was not. And while I understand the weather is turning cold, and snow has already come, I hope my appreciation can resonate with many of you, or at least one of you, and that you will look ways and opportunities to express your love of fitness and being fit – whether that is eating better, sleeping more, competing in an upcoming CF event (Fitness Elevated?), running a race, hitting the slopes, or just improving yourself at the gym today. Please do it…
